Cycling Multi-Day Experiences

Tour 2.1 Trails of the Lost Trades – Larut Discovery (Penang, Taiping and Port Weld)

The event Detail

#facinationextended There are many more fascinating encounters and discoveries to embrace as we extend our stay with a day exploring Taiping and nearby Port Weld. Our riding sets us towards a lush hillslope as we move away from Taiping’s beautiful Lake Gardens. Settle back on your saddle and breath the fresh air as we ride into the history with a visit to an abandoned Larut/Bukit Berapit train tunnel. Passing then through dainty hamlets and plots of plantations along remote train tracks, through viaducts and underpass to leave the slopes of Berapit. Heading to Kuala Sepetang (Port Weld), we stop by interesting places like Taiping, Museum, Ngah Ibrahim’s fort, and learn the history behind the founding of the first capital of Malaya. We then head to the charcoal factory and the Chinese Dragon incense-making factory to see these ancient trades’ delicate and time-consuming processes. Visit the unique settlement by riding along the maze of paths between timber houses built so closely together. Enjoy fresh and delicious lunch at a distinguished seafood restaurant in Port Weld.

Map & Location

The city of Georgetown may have been blessed with a UNESCO heritage title – but much of its rustic charm had vanished. On this overnight trip, we take you riding along unique trails to visit the forgotten trades. We start our discovery from an estate owned by an English Baron during the mid 19th century. A charming short vacation on 2 wheels that tell tales of the founding of Taiping. Taiping was recently the winner of the 3rd most tourism sustainable city in the world.
